Marmalade Duck - Holland Park
The Marmalade Duck is located in the Church Hall at St Barnabas in Addison Road near Holland Park. The large hall is light and spacious, it also benefits from its own dedicated outside space situated behind the main Church. Miss Andrea Bodnar is the Head of Marmalade Duck. Miss Andrea joined the Marmalade Schools in 2021 and was the deputy head of The Marmalade Owl which is rated Outstanding by Ofsted before moving to the Marmalade Duck in the Summer of 2024.
Miss Andrea worked very closely with SEND children whilst she was a Deputy Head. Prior to joining the Marmalade Schools Miss Andrea worked at the Alphabet nursery School for 8 years which was also rated Outstanding by Ofsted. She is a qualified teacher with 18 years experiences in Key Stage 1 and she is passionate about many aspects of Early Years Education and has pioneered a number of techniques using music (including songs, games and dance) to promote creative development. Miss Andrea has also gained a bachelor education in teaching methods of Mathematics, Literature, Science, Music and Speech Development. For 9 years including while she was studying in high school and University, she was a volunteer at Malteser International which is an international humanitarian aid organization that particularly fulfil the order's mission of "helping those in need". Miss Andrea was a group leader, caring for babies and young children as she is passionate and dedicated about supporting children in their most important stage of their wellbeing and education.
The staff work with the children both collectively and individually to ensure, the work is set for each child independently allowing the child to work at its own pace. The Marmalade Duck has small class sizes to allow time for individual attention, and therefore children learn rapidly as Ofsted recently pointed out at the other Marmalade nurseries. The Marmalade Duck ensures excellent communication with parents, and teachers are available every day to talk if needed. The use of Tapestry is an excellent way for the parents to be involved with the school and for the school to share information. The school is very well resourced with new equipment to ensure the best for all the children. The Marmalade Duck shares the ethos of being an inclusive school with many different religions, ethnicities, and abilities at the school. We celebrate many different religious festivals.
Parents are involved with many of the activities and events held at the school to foster a close working relationship with our parents. We encourage parent participation and hold events such as sponsored wheelies, sports day and parent stay and play. We also have an active PTA which helps create a friendly community around the nursery. Marmalade Duck children have access to specialist teachers in a range of additional activities such as Ballet, French, Tarka, Small Sports, Little Kickers, Music with Lucy Sparkles and friends. The children also spend one morning a week in Holland Park led by a trained Forest School Leader.
